IANZ was established in 1972 as the accreditation body of the Testing Laboratory Registration Council – an autonomous Crown entity set up under the Testing Laboratory Registration Council Act.
In 1977, IANZ was a foundation member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and, in 1992, of the regional group, Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC).
Through ILAC and APLAC, IANZ accreditation is recognised in over 65 countries around the world. That means test reports from IANZ accredited laboratories and inspection bodies are accepted in those countries as if they had been prepared there.
IANZ is based in Auckland and employs more than 40 staff.
