The Laboratory Approval Scheme is a regulatory programme for meat, poultry, seafood and other animal products. It is administered by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (Export Standards). The scheme specifies standards and requirements for NZFSA Approved laboratories that carry out microbiological and chemical or other specified laboratory tests for market access requirements.

Accreditation Criteria
General
International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) accredits laboratories in the NZFSA Laboratory Approval Scheme to the requirements of NZS ISO/IEC 17025 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.

With accreditation, testing laboratories receive formal recognition of the organisation’s technical competency after assessment of their processes, resources, facilities, staff and other key factors skills which relate to, and impact on the quality of the testing service provided.
