Gas Cylinder Testing

 

 
Use of compressed gases is widespread: in commerce and industry as a fuel, in sports such as diving, and in medical and fire fighting equipment. Serious injury can result from the sudden release of the stored energy in a compressed gas cylinder through failure. The risk of failure can be substantially reduced by the maintenance of these cylinders in good repair and by regular inspection and testing.

Gas cylinder test stations require authorisation from the Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA). A prerequisite is accreditation by International Accreditation New Zealand.

Cylinders for automotive alternative fuel use, LPG and CNG, come under similar requirements. Land Transport Safety Authority will approve cylinder test stations accredited by IANZ.

Accreditation Criteria
General
IANZ accreditation of gas cylinder test stations is in compliance with NZS ISO/IEC 17025 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.

Specific
Specific criteria that elaborate on the general criteria for accrediting mechanical testing laboratories are contained in Mechanical Testing AS LAB C 4 (pdf).

Supplementary
