Every testing laboratory seeking to be a Recognised Agency under the Animal Products Act 1999 (the Act) must be accredited by IANZ as meeting the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025. Laboratories need to be accredited in order to test materials (meat, seafood, dairy products, honey, etc.) for export to meet importing country requirements.
Laboratories seeking accreditation under the RLP must therefore comply with the MPI Animal Products Notice: Specifications for Laboratories in addition to ISO/IEC 17025.
These laboratories, each with a specified list of tests, are recorded in the approved laboratories listing on the MPI website.
The scope of application of the Register is restricted to:
- Laboratories that test any products that falls under the Animal Products Act for purposes of export testing.
- Tests or determinants which are detailed in the CLT.
Testing for any other purpose are outside the scope of this programme and accreditation for such testing can be sought under the IANZ chemical and/or biological testing programmes.
- NZS ISO/IEC 17025 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories and specific technical criteria i.e. fully IANZ accredited laboratories, and
- MPI RLP Animal Products Notice: Specifications for Laboratories and the Consolidated List of Tests for Animal Products.
