An Introduction to Root Cause Analysis for Building Consent Authorities
This foundational course introduces Building Consent Authority professionals to the principles and practices of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) within the context of regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
Participants will explore how to identify, analyse, and address the underlying causes of noncompliance, errors, and process failures, ensuring improved service delivery and organisation performance. The course will introduce key RCA concepts and terminology, exploring common issues within building consent processes. Gaining practices with structured tools such as the 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagram through scenario-based activities. Participants will also receive a digital 'RCA Toolbox' with helpful guides and templates to assist them in their future
By the end of this course, participants will understand the purpose of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and its relevance to Building Consent Authorities. They will be able to identify root causes of non-conformances, apply basic RCA tools, and distinguish between symptoms and underlying issues. Participants will also learn how RCA supports corrective actions, continuous improvement, and accreditation requirements.
